POLICE AND RESIDENCE AND BUSINESSES As a owner of business in lower main road I find it very disappointing of how people constantly work against each other instead of with each other… Yes I do know certain businesses don’t keep their act clean and cause continuous a nuisance, however there are those businesses, that do also act accordingly to standards, and try their utmost best to comply with all the laws that there are being faced with, be it licensing always up to date, OCS subscriptions, keeping their businesses clean of any illegal activities, keeping eye out for customers within their business at times even go as far as making sure they arrive safely at home, all at their own business’s cost… however one never has a perfect world not everything can always run smoothly as I reckon most would agree, one can only do ones best… As for those business that try and keep their act as clean as possible, it is just as ANNOYING as to those businesses as for the residence when other business don’t comply to the standards and by not doing this bring down the whole standard of OBS as a suburb…
You got business that we all have heard of before as to how much bad activities or loud music etc etc pumps out continuously every weekend, yet somehow after YEARS and YEARS they are still open… one asks how is that possible!!! Yet then on a Wednesday I had whole police in my shop telling my manageress how the law states that and that and that, about loud music, whereas in the 3 and half years I played my music every damn evening at the same level, yet now they have a problem…funny??? I never to my knowledge had a complaint, with even a obs resident staying at the back of me, for over 20 years…! As to my knowledge a certain obs resident spends his time driving up and down the lower main road complaining every second evening about loud music… which he can hear from his car and not even from his house where he tries to sleep, now I ask myself the question, does this person really don’t have anything better to do…(it is to my knowledge so if its not true I apologise) I come back to what I said earlier, show us how the system works and answer why places with known problems that cause problems every weekend in and out are still operating, first!! Before looking for unnecessary and lame problems at those business, that try their utmost best, where the owners or reliant managers that are their do their utmost best, the business that most of the time attend the OBF meetings the ones, that pay their yearly subscription, the ones who always donate something when asked for any donations… etc etc etc…. The obs residences always ask what do the businesses do for obs, well my take on it, the best we can do is to promote obs in the best way we can do within our financial means, we as owners are also trying to do a living it’s the industry we decided to study for, for 4 years, it’s the tough industry we got into which is open 7 days a week for hours a day, it’s the industry in my field that I try to give a service to obs customers where they can socialise, have a chat to their colleagues, watch LIVE sports, be it three different sports at a time as not everyone has dstv and love their sports, where they can have just plain fun… we sit with the new bye laws that are being tried to be passed and implemented where it can effect our future, which I invested 8 years in too in a way that it can just close you overnight, and yeah it is the industry a lot of people have a negative view towards, so it’s a difficult and stressful field one is to be in, and as for the residence I am sure a majority of you have gone through as well the phase back in the years where you were all in your 20’s partying… obviously in a responsible manner… As for my opinion as well, last night I was in long street seeing how it is all functioning there, and really I would ten times more choose obs, as for all the arguments, set out above… I don’t want to stir up a huge argument, so to come back to my heading, police residence and business, I really think those residences that have a negative connotation to ALL the business should have a look at all the business and give at least some slack to those who have for years tried their utmost best to keeping their noses clean, I personally know I have a great number of residences that come to my pub and have no problems as to the way its running, and the best part is if they do have a problem the come to me and I try to sort it out in the best way… Another point to remember is obs will always be a student suburb as major tertiary institutions will be around for years and years to come, and having a broader view, from overseas students despite being even robbed a few times they still adore obs, and ETV 20somethin insert on the OBS FESTIVAL was all the way positive!!!
