On this subject, my neighbour's car was attempted to be stolen last night (Arnold Street)... they cut straight through the steering wheel to remove the steering lock... I guess that's why gear locks are more expensive.
I think you'll find that steering wheels are not as strong as you'd suspect... this is either so that they can collapse in an accident or just to cut costs. They couldn't get the car started.
