Hi Sandy, Oxford Dedicated Bicycle Patrol Subscribers have been offered special discs to display on their vehicles.
Please see the most recent Newletter which was distributed on Monday. These discs identify subscriber's vehicles. The guard is required to observe Subscribers' cars and report and report to ADT Control if there any problems. He is required to be vigilant about the contents of subscribers' car so that any laptops, cellphones, wallets or any item of value can be reported and subscriber's alerted. The Newsletter directs subscribers to Frank Schuitemaker (0214481579) who will allocate the discs and provide operating information. The service is free-of- charge. Thus far no subscriber's have contacted Frank. Theft of/ from cars in this area is increasing throughout Observatory. It is hoped that this initiative can assist Bicycle subscribers in the Oxford road scheme. I discovered this when I went to the garage to get petrol and the attendant showed me that the petrol cap was missing. The lock on the covering flap had been broken. The thieves must have intended siphoning petrol, but the tank was only about a quarter full and they were obviously not successful. I have had to replace the petrol cap which cost R272 and the garage is trying to get a new lock for the flap. The thieves may have been disturbed by the Oxford Rd bicycle patrol.
