It seems like the stealing of metal is really becoming a problem. We renovated our bathroom about 2 months ago and left our steel bath in the passage behind our house, as our neighbours at the back wanted to use it as a planter box. Our passage at the back is open to the street, but secured with massive iron gates and shade netting on to obscure vision as much as possible. I remember one morning taking out my motorcycle and the donkey cart with scrap metal coming past and begging me for the bath, but I told them that the neighbours are going to use it. They were insisting on me giving them the bath, but i refused and confirmed that it will be used.
About 3 days later I arrived home after work to find that the lock to the gates and the bath are both missing. I spoke to our neighbour and asked if he moved it, but he did nothing with it. What basically then transpired and this is what we both reckon happened is that the donkey cart must have come past again, smashed the lock open with a brick (which was lying on at the gate when I arrived) and then proceeded on taking the bath and gate. Nothing else was taken, but the gate stood open for the whole day. Seems that they would really do everything for metal.
