Thanks to all those who repsonded - I did try and reply to each person personally - if I did not accpet my apology and here is an update.
One of my waiters took the kitten home last night after dark - after no-one had seen a potential mom. He fed it and kept it warm with 2 hourly feed with cat formula he bought - bless his soul. I have since found a surrogate - through someone contacting me from my original post to the list! The mom cat has two kittens who are just over a week old so they are a little bigger and more feisty than the little guy. We presented the little one to the mom and she immediately started licking it so we then proceeded to put it with the others and it immediately started trying to latch on to a nipple! So it knows what to do and we just hope the other two bigger kittens do not fight it off too much. They guy who took it (who is living in a tiny one room apartment with his family in Cape Town overflowing with "stuff" and poverty) will check it frequently to make sure it is getting fed. I left R40 with him so he can buy more food for the mom - with the promise of more in a while and when I fetch the cat when it is older. Sometimes compassionate help like this comes from the most unexpected quarters and from people who barely have enough for themselves.
