I have just spoken to a gent that caught a house ransacker/stripper in the act. The police have been called and an arrest made. This gent says he is a contractor and he reckons there is hundreds of thousands of rands of damage to the two semis - just opposite the lawn mower shop in Obs. I think those house were valued at R1000000 for both in the last valuation (not the latest updated one)
The ransackers were burning the copper wire in the fireplace and the gent thought the house might be on fire. He says every metal fitting, geyeser, door is stripped - toilets and basins gone or damaged. Even the wiring to the main board is stripped. Maybe a cheap sale coming up soon - watchout! Apparently the owner had trouble with tenants so left the houses empty. Moral of the story - rather let someone stay in your house for free (aka bad tenants) than leave it empty and not check on it daily!
