This sounds like a guy who conned me (I can't believe it!) some months
back. I put a description on this site at the time.  Big, genial black
guy who said they were chopping trees for the people who live behind
us. He got to come a bit into our house and then I can't remember
exactly - I think we clicked that something wasn't right and kicked
him out. Needless to say no one chopping trees anywhere - which we
could easily have checked before letting him in/refusing to let him
in. That's it with cons - they are seriously plausible...  Like I
said, I would NEVER let a stranger into the house - but I did.
