I was conned yesterday when someone came to the door wanting to borrow an
extension lead and I let him in! The story was that he was working in an
adjoining garden and their lead was not long enough.

It dawned on me that he was dodgy when he tried to go from room to room to
find the best place to plug in! He was much bigger and younger than me but
when I picked up my Obs NHW 2-way radio he departed fast.

Lessons Learned

* Professional conmen can be very convincing - that's the way they
make a good living!
* Dogs are a great deterrent. This fellow was very worried when he saw
our large dog basket but Lucy was out, being exercised.
* 5:30pm to 7 is a dangerous time because thieves know we are tired
and off our guard. We had an armed break-in at this time some 4 years ago
(not in Obs).
* NEVER, EVER let someone you don't know into your house.

We were lucky, we did not loose anything - but maybe, as my wife said, he
did not see anything worth stealing! On the other hand, maybe he was "Casing
the Joint" - so we are on our guard.

Take care,

David
