Police are hunting for a man who apparently conned his victims by pretending to be a music teacher, an estate agent or other bogus professionals to lure them to Liesbeek Parkway where he robbed them at knifepoint. Woodstock police spokesman Hilton Malila said the man was 42 and was known as Billy McCarthy of Lavender Hill. He said seven cases had been reported at the station between June and November - all involving victims who had been robbed in similar circumstances, and thus possibly by the same man. Malila said the man typically targeted his victims - all men - in the vicinity of Gardens in the city centre. >From there, he “lured” them to the Liesbeek Parkway area - either with the promise of showing them musical instruments he wished to sell, or supposedly to visit show houses. Then he robbed his victims at knifepoint. He had taken a range of items from his victims including cellphones, cash and other valuables. Malila said none of the victims wished to speak to the media. He urged any other victims to come forward. - Cape Argus -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
