A report from Bedford St A resident had his bakkie window smashed on Sat or Sun, the police did come so obviously it was reported. Don't have any more details. Then on Monday morning I go outside and find a known-to-me hustler and his buddy cleaning the street. When asked who they are working for, or who asked them to clean the street, they say nobody, they're just being useful and civic minded and they're going to wash my neighbour's car and they see I'm going out now and I must have a lovely day and etcetera. They have a lot of packages and a back pack on the pavement. I go inside and phone Vetus Schola and ask them to please send someone to just come and ask these guys what they are up to, just so they can know they are being watched. 3 minutes later VS patrol car arrives, which is great response time, thanks. The VS guys are a little aggressive and say they've had a complaint and the two must move on. Of course the two protest loudly that they have done nothing wrong, which quite possibly they hadn't. The commotion brings my neighbours out, so I get the chance to tell them that I would not recommend asking these guys to wash cars or anything like that as I have reason to believe that they are petty criminals. The two leave and I see them later on the corner of Collingwood and Drake rds hanging out on the church steps. I love being able to call Vetus Schola when there are people in my street who make me uncomfortable. I do feel however that perhaps VS could have been a little less aggressive and that I was made vulnerable in being identified as the person who complained about their presence. Bad guys generally don't take too well to being called bad guys. Evelyn Bedford st
