Subject: [obsnw] FW: How to Report Crime and Call for Help in
Observatory (Sector 1 of Woodstock)
Importance: High

It was recommended at our local Community Police Forum (CPF) meeting on
Tuesday that the most effective way for the public to report crime is as
follows:

* If, in Observatory, you need assistance from a SAPS patrol car
immediately, call the local car 082 302 5525, or Sector Commander 082
302 5436 or the Woodstock Police station 021 442 3121, alternatively the
shift commander on 082 469 2522. If you ever experience problems with
the response or service please send a short e-mail to
[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> .

* Alternatively you can phone one of the 2 Vetus Scola cars
patrolling right here in Obs 24/7.

o 072 055 8680 for the car patrolling on the Hartleyvale side of the
railway line

o 072 063 1653 for the car patrolling on the mountain side of the
railway line

* If you do not need immediate, on the spot, Police presence phone
10111. You will be asked for your name and address so that the call can
be logged and response recorded. Please ask for and note the reference
number for your call so that you can follow up on progress.

* IMPORTANT - If you have called one of the numbers other than
10111 please call 10111 as well and obtain a reference number. This will
allow you to follow up and check progress. This is particularly
important because the amount of SAPS resources allocated to us annually
is influenced by the 10111 records. I believe that currently very little
of our crime is reported via 10111. This means that we are not receiving
our fair share of Police men and money.

Please remember, if we do not know all about your problem we cannot do
so much to help.

Take care and thanks,

David
