Hi Wow, that story about the vehicle thieves at Shonsay and the coloured male perp is fantastic! It’s really heartening to see VS and ADT working together with each other and SAPS.
I’ve been giving some thought to what you said about neighbourhood watch last night. I don’t think ONW is becoming redundant. I think it’s still very relevant and does indeed serve a purpose. I don’t have to tell you this, of course, but every pair of eyes on the lookout makes a difference and the reality is that once you get a neighbourhood watch mindset you’re pretty much ‘on patrol’ all the time. Before I joined ONW I never used to observe people the way I do now. Since I started going on patrols I’ve gotten into the habit of looking at my surroundings all the time and not just for the purpose of preserving my own safety/possessions. I think it’s also important for the community to have a relationship with VS and SAPS. If I were a security provider I would feel more motivated to protect an area where a number of the residents were familiar faces who spoke to me on occasion and joined in now and then. I certainly get the impression that VS employees appreciate it when we’re out there with them and I think that we provide support for them on occasion. That’s my 5 cents for now. :) Have a lovely day.
