A copper pipe thief was intercepted in the act at 4 Wesley Street this morning 15 Jul at 11.20 by a VS patrol vehicle. Noticing water coming from the property he saw the culprit climbing back to the pavement jumping down from the tree between the neighboring properties. Having progressed around into Scott Road with tree shrubs and pipes in hand and held by the other hand by David calling for back up, the thief retorted he was working for the owner, broke free and started running away up Scott into Cook and Rochester where he jumped into properties moving to wherever he could escape from. Partly monitoring my radio I went to assist in the search for him keeping eye onto Campbell and Polo while VS, and SAPS who also arrived due to telephonic alert, commenced searching around between Cook and Campbell street properties. The thief was discovered lying flat on a roof but again jumped into another back yard but speedily was arrested by SAPS from at residence near on Campbell near Polo. The perpetrator is a foreigner living in Station Road Woodstock. SAPS commenced checking at the residence in Wesley Street and tried to shut the water supply down after which a kind neighbor shut the municipal mains down at the pavement. A big thank you is extended to VS in noticing this culprit as Observatory has been sorely plagued by copper pipe thiefs during the past month or so. Thanks to SAPS as well taking charge of the search and in carrying out the arrest.
Seriously, but with utmost care, when checking on the gardener or handyman working at your neighbor’s property, accept nothing less than a positive confirmation from your neighbour as people are conned that they are doing the work or task by permission from the owner etc. If no reply from the neighbour, freely call Vetus Schola Security at 021 447 1066 or SAPS to assist checking an individual supposedly doing work but meanwhile being a trespasser busy waiting the opportunity to steal copper pipes or more worse of things. *James Cowley* *082 926 1220* *021 448 2824 (t&f)* Observatory Neighborhood Watch: Chairman -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
