Ni Natalie,

>From OBSID's side we have had some reports by residents from nr 9 and nr 11
Bedford Road on the incident. As Mark Berry from SAPS noted - the motive is
not known so unfortunately we can not speculate whether this was
premeditated etc. - or whether any parties involved were residents in Obs.
We have supplied SAPS with all the information and contacts we've received
and hope they will be able to provide us with more details when they have
it.

In regards to visible policing; we are constantly improving on and changing
patrols. OBSID's Safety committee works relentlessly to identify crime
hotspots and Vetus Schola work closely with SAPS to relay info when needed.
As for preventative measures we are doing all we can in structuring public
safety patrols where needed. The key to this is having statistics from the
public in order to prevent crime. We continue encouraging the public to
report *any and all* suspicious behaviour no matter how trivial as this is
often what prevents the crimes from taking place. *please note that you
need not leave your name or details at the requests. Vetus Schola will
respond to everything as instructed by OBSID. With these reports we can
identify suspicious characters and regular offenders - as well as hotspots.

OBSID spends the majority share of it's budget on Safety and we take the
situation very seriously. SAPS continuously note that the OBSID is really
making a difference where crime is concerned and we hope to continue on this
trend until a truly safe suburb can be a reality.

With this said, neighbouring areas do not all have improvement districts and
from my own experience, driving into some neighbouring suburbs feels like a
different province, compared to Obs.

Feel free to contact me if you have any queries in this regard.

Best regards,
Ancois
