Hm, is it not a traffic violation to park on any
pavement?
Either right or left?

Hi Reinmar,
Here is the phone number for traffic violations -021 596 1999. They should be able to assist with vehicles
parking on the side-walk. For Obs residents it is common sense
to park on the one side of narrow roads only - however this is
actually a traffic violation if your car is facing the wrong
way.
Kind regards,

I know this is probably not going to result in much, but just
have to
voice it, with the hope that someone can give advice. I also
realise
that this is an issue that a lot of people have in
Observatory, but I
have to state the below.
Most people in Oxford Road come down Trill, turn right and
thus park
with cars on the right hand-side of the road facing Bowden.
As there
is quite a few number of houses in Oxford between Trill &
Bowden with
limited parking in the street, people are parking on the left
hand
side of the road (railway line side) - on the pavement. This
is
clearly in violation, as there is on the left hand side of the
street,
no-stopping signs affixed to the lamp posts. Most of the
residents
and people in Oxford are parking on the right-hand side where
parking
is allowed. There have been numerous times when we've driven
down
Oxford and have had to squeeze between cars on both sides.
Last night
was the cherry on the cake, when a tow truck (which lives in
Darien
Lane I assume) parked on the corner of Oxford & Darien
lane on the
left-hand side of the road with a car that it has towed in.
Both tow
truck and car was parked on the pavement! This blocked about
3
entrances to houses on the left hand side of Oxford, and we
literally
had to spend 5 minutes trying to get through the narrow space
left
over.
As it's clearly in violation of the law, is there anything
that can be
done about perpetrators that park on the left hand side of the
road.
