You may have wondered what happened to one of our known heroin addicts that
has been on our Observatory streets for quite a number of months and have
been spoken of residing on and off on Oxford Road. Due to the sheer
perseverance, letter writing and focus of two Oxford road residents, they
managed to get Chad readmitted to Stikland for a 7 day detox period. It
was a troublesome time for other residents who felt he had a good chance
given him before, but with some assertiveness and open communication
opportunity was given for the role players to beam in towards finding
resolve and direction. Allison’s feedback below tells the rest.

Hi there James****

I am pleased to let you know that we fetched Chad yesterday from Stikland
and took him though to De novo. He was highly motivated and said this time
feels different and is determined about this drug rehabilitation. He has so
much potential and I do hope a place can be found for him in say Beth Rapha
when he has completed the 7 weeks at de Novo. He is not allowed visitors in
the first week there but I am trying to organise him some clothes,
toiletries and cigarettes etc that I can take through there on the
weekend. I won’t be able to see him but the following Sunday we should be
able to see him.****

Will keep you posted****

With kind regards****

Ali Barrett****
Even though it is still early days, this shows what residents of
Observatory can
rise to, and achieve.
Good luck Chad, go for it!
James
