Last week (Tuesday, 31 Jan, 6:30pm) we thwarted an attempted fishing
expedition through our front window.
We heard our venetian blinds making an unusual noise and upon inspection
scared away someone collecting items from our bedroom with a very thorny
stick, about 2.5 metres long.
By the time we opened the front door the person had run out of sight. It
was lucky we had interrupted him when we did because there were a number of
my wife's empty handbags and accessories strewn over our front yard, it
appears however that he ultimately ran away without anything of value.
The window *was* open at the time and we have been conscious to not leave
valuables within perceivable reach of the window as we have been victim of
clever fishing attempts in the past.
This guy however managed to grasp a storage basket that was about 3 metres
away from behind a table that would have been barely visible to him. The
thorny stick he used was obviously highly effective for the task at hand,
managing to snag and pull the basket over to access it's contents.
*I would advise anyone who may be in the same predicament to carefully
assess the security of their valuables*.
