Media Statement by the Station Commissioner , Woodstock, Western Cape ,
Sergeant Hilton Malila .

 

WOODSTOCK DETECTIVES SECURE GOOD SENTENCES OF FOUR SUSPECTS ON ROBBERY,
HOUSEBREAKING  AND ARMED ROBBERY CASES

 

First case :

On Friday (2011-01-21) the Woodstock police detective , Warrant officer
Warren Smith, started his  investigation into  an Armed Robbery incident
that was reported in Norwich street Observatory , where a female was robbed
at gun point of her gold neckless and R300-00 in cash .

 

The suspect was arrested shortly after the robbery. It is been alleged by
the complainant that the suspect approached her in Norwich road , on her way
to work . The suspect took out a fire-arm and threatened to shoot the
complainant , if she don't hand her belongings over . The suspect robbed the
complainant and fled the scene on foot . The suspect was arrested with the
assistance of members of the public .

 

The suspect made his first court appearance on 2011-01-24 , and was remanded
in custody.

The suspect was found guilty and was sentenced to 8 years in imprisonment .
The 28 year old suspect , Ashley Moses, from the Manenburg area , was also
wanted on a similar incident that took place during 2009. The suspect was
also convicted 7 times before for Housebreaking and Theft incidents . 

 

 

 

Second case :

On Friday (2011-06-17) , Sergeant Andrea V/Rensburg , of the Woodstock
detective branch, started his investigation into an Housebreaking and Theft
incident , that was reported in Lorraine street Walmer Estate.

 

According to the complainant, whilst he was busy to watch television , he
heard a breaking of glass sound . As he went to investigate , he noticed
that somebody was standing inside his living room, hiding behind the
curtains . The complainant approached the suspect , and a struggle ensued .
The suspect manage to overpower the complainant , and in the process took an
amplifier, remote and dvd player . The suspect fled the scene through an
broken bathroom window . The suspect was arrested in Richie street ,with the
assistance of ADT security , as he tried to hide between parked motor
vehicles . All the complainants belongings stolen during the robbery was
recovered and returned .

 

The suspect made his first court appearance on 2011-06-20 and bail was
denied .

The suspect was found guilty and was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment . The
29 year old detainee , James Sarakikya , is from the Delft area .

 

Third case :

On Friday (2011-01-28), Warrant officer David Miles , was assigned to a
Robbery case , that reported under the Salt river bridge , where a
complainant was robbed at knife point of his belongings .

 

According to the complainant, he picked up a female and dropped her off at
her home . As he walked her to her room , he was approached by four unknown
suspects , who threatened him with knives and robbed him of his belongings .

 

During the investigation , photos of the suspects was shown to the Crime
prevention unit member, Constable George Ontong, who within minutes arrested
all the suspects.

 

The suspects made their first court appearance on 2011-01-31 and bail was
denied .

Two of the suspects arrested was found guilty of robbery . The 26 year old
female , Mereldia Dolan, was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment . The 34 year
old , Moegamat Armin Arnold , was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment . Both
suspects was also declared unfit to possess a fire-arm .

 

The hard work of the detectives paid off , when they closed all the
loopholes for the suspects during the investigation of the incidents . 

The Woodstock police wants to congratulate the 3 detectives on their
achievements, to secure convictions on their cases .
