Dear Obs *( I hope the crime was reported to SAPS Woodstock)* At around the same time as this crime incident, I done a walkabout mono patrol going through Arnold to Bishop Road when I noticed a vehicle with electronic and antennae installation equipment lying on the back and front seats of a parked motor vehicle. In finding and speaking to the owner informing and requesting him at least to remove or hide the stuff in the boot, the young man retorted, agh, no problem, but thanks for telling me but, I always leave it in my car and nothing happened to it these past years, I won't be long - another few minutes or so! *Well, he sure is a very lucky young man!*
Of its sister Policing Precincts, re Walmer & University Estates Woodstock and Salt River, Observatory is plagued by the highest number of 'Theft Out Of Motor Vehicles, and followed by 'Theft Of Motor Vehicles', week in and year out for the past number of years! Much of this we reckon is due to the many visitors to Observatory's restaurants and night life. Later speaking to a guy in Nuttall Road, as he had left his gate wide open in seeing a friend off a distance down the road, "I should have known better when a number of goodies were stolen from my car awhile ago before the OBSID, but things have improved over the years you know'. I would like to say, since the OBSID, the rate of crime in Observatory have definitely improved, but I reckon the residents have not! *What can you do about it Sir, Mam, Friend or Visitor, to make Observatory's crime rate drop?* Unfortunately, due to not enough eyes on the ground and out there at night or by day, the quick smash and grab went buy unnoticed, such a pity.
