During February 108 incidents were recorded.

The major problem is "Theft out or from Motor Vehicles" 28 or 26% down from
33% last month. A huge challenge remains "carelessness" especially by
visitors to Observatory, leaving luggage, cell phones and even laptops
visible in their cars. Drug related crimes totalled 14 followed by fights
11 and the same number for stolen cars 11, Robbery is concerning due to
trauma total 9, Burglaries 8 with the same number for general theft.
Fortunately only 1 battery was stolen and 1 copper pipe theft reported with
the last fishing incident end of January thus lets hope the spate of
incidents we had for months doesn't increase.

Hotspots and the number of incidents are: 22 Lower Main Road, 7 Oxford
Road (picking up again), 5 Main Road, 4 Franklin and 3 in Strubens Road.
Most crime occurs in the blocks between Station Road and Norwich/Darien,
Oxford Road to Herschel Road but the move eastwards and even across the
railway line continues. Robberies and trespassing around Scott Road area.

Crime Map top left and type Observatory in the Location field and select

Under-reporting remains a problem. Obsid got a few complaints from
residents to increase patrols due to crime, however in all instances no or
hardly any crime was reported thus extra patrols were not warranted.
Therefore please report all crime and suspicious activities.

Nearly 60 or 55% incidents occurred over weekends. (18 Fri Sat 20 Sun 21).
Much is due to drunkenness, fighting and drugs which all increase during
weekends.

Whilst most crime takes place during the night 61 with 31 in the afternoon
and 16 in the morning, there is a shift towards later part of the afternoon
and early evening.

Just during the last week of February 14 (Fourteen) arrests were made by
SAPS including 7 Salt River boys robbing 5 Congolese men, a further 5
suspects were arrested with car loads of electronics stolen from an
internet cafe, thanks to SAPS who intercepted these thieves driving without
lights in LMR.

The above info is a summary of detailed crime details used by Obsid
Security Committee, ONW, OCPSF, OPS and security providers as well as SAPS.

If you care about your fellow citizen report any suspicious activity to the
OPS 021 447-1066 in addition to crime to 10111 and/or report on the ONW
Google Group folu.me/ONW or to me.
