Hi Observatory Neighbourhood Watchers - et al

Its really great to have our Woodstock Police Area Manger Constable Mark
Berry, back on duty and with us again, though on light duty catching up on
office duties at the CSC. In mid December he suffered a broken kneecap and
torn off ligament upon entry into a drug house when a floorboard gave way
under his weight during a police raid.

Constable Berry recommenced his passing on of good information to us ,
either on a daily basis or after a weekend. As such, the past 48 hours no
theft of motor vehicles occurred or the theft out of motor vehicles, which
is excellent, but somehow it was also more relaxed in the other three areas
as well.

But kindly note: Our suburb being Sector 1 remains and is the greatest
contributor of crime as compared with the other three Sectors under the
Woodstock Police Station's domain. Theft out of motor vehicles is the
biggest factor, theft of motor vehicles are the highest too, the biggest
problem area is around our CBD around the restaurants and clubs/bars. More
than often visitors to Observatory leave all sort of prize items up for
grabs while the wine or dine, a fantastic haven for criminals who are
looking for easy finds, often finding perpetrators coming across from Salt
River to Observatory.

Our area is a priority for Woodstock SAPS, currently in order to break the
back of our crime, any available vehicle the SAPS can find they currently
place in Obs. Often while we sit behind our TV's and Dishes our homes are
being burgled or businesses are hit. The ONW patrollers have been very
beneficial in our early evening patrols as they often find prize items seen
laying on car seat, dash boards etc, in which we either try to contact the
owner resident/patron and notify our Observatory Public Security and even
SAPS to keep an extra eye out while the owner cannot be found.

*So what can you as resident, restaurant, business or club owner/manger do
to help Observatory overcome this scourge of crime?*
* - Let visitors to your home check their cars for items laying inside
their vehicle*
* - Request your patrons just to check their cars quickly before
entertaining their order for meals or refreshments etc.*
* - Join the ONW at no cost of membership and join us on our set routine
patrols, being the eyes and ears for SAPS and OPS and the neighbourhood's
friend.*
