Hello all
Many people are unaware of or uninformed about what seems to be a
serious breakdown of trust and cooperation between the police, the
authorities responsible for CPFs in our area, and the struggling
Woodstock CPF. Residents are unlikely to act or attend meetings unless
they are informed. Would it not help if someone were to put together a
background report, and forward this to the press (so that it reaches the
wider public)?

Even though I will probably open myself up to accusations of being
motivated by "sour grapes", I would like to make some comments.
The whole debacle surrounding the dissolving of Woodstock CPF has made
me even more convinced than I was at the time of my resignation as
chairperson that the CPF structures are NOT working to create a proper
channel for oversight by community over police.
The CPFs have increasingly been bogged down by all kinds of
administrative demands and SAPS have become increasingly unresponsive.
SAPS can unilaterally decide to withhold information from CPFs and
have become very good in sending CPFs from pillar to post without them
achieving anything. SAPS is playing games with CPFs.
CPFs have become no more than window dressing for SAPS to show that
they have community support when necessary.
The higher CPF structures are supporting this development and are
probably not even aware of it, because they are blinded by their
positions, "power" and "influence".
I my view, and I have stated this before, community organisations
should go back to basics and hold the police to account and challenge
SAPS outside of CPF structures. If they stand together they can not be
ignored, never mind a CPF. But be organised in our own precinct and
don't worry about the rest.

Teun

I think we should descend on this AGM en mass and disrupt it
By disrupt I mean something along the lines of arriving and nominating
the same cabal (because lets face it who else is there) and then after
being elected immediately resign in protest.
Or we can just heckle and have some fun.
An AGM implies there is a functional organisation and committee -
which there was until Hanif Loomat started throwing his weight.
Does anybody have his email address.
If this is an AGM then 20 days notice does not cut it and I suggest
that should be the first port of call in getting it postponed until we
actually know what is going on and proper notice is received. I would
have thought the first people to know would be the current committee.
I have not been directly informed that I am no longer a member of this
committee so Hanif is just as short on protocol and procedure than he
claims the WCPF was.
I will be there.
