Hi all
These traps are indeed a disgrace, for most recent rulings on the use of these traps please see http://www.scoop.it/t/human-wildlife-conflict-who-has-the-right-of-way/p/196 3336475/no-relief-from-gin-traps-for-sa-wildlife We own 20 acre piece of bush land right in the Cape winelands and we have a huge problem with noose traps, so Gin traps just makes this problem worse. We can't patrol our piece of land everyday and wild animals tend to follow paths under the dense bush where you cannot see unless you crawl along the ground. If these Gin traps are on sale in WPK anybody off the street can purchase them and use them on any land including ours where wild animals roam. I will definitely make my voice heard on this one and stop buying any farm goods at Agrimark Durbanville if they continue to display these traps so openly. On the shelf right in the middle of the shop, visible for all to see are a selection of Gin Traps. Two different sizes for the 'legs' and one that goes round the neck. I spoke to the assistant Manager, Barry, and was told that they are displaying in this way so that the farmers can see that they once again stock these traps. Barry assured me that they do 'speak' to the people purchasing these traps to verify if they are really farmers and that their intentions are 'good'. When i asked him if it would be possible to move these traps to a less prominent place i was told that they would remain where they are and that they would be moved to the medicine section for the weekend, and then once again moved back to the front of house position for the following week. I know that i can't stop them selling these traps and i can't stop people using them however i just feel that if they are so 'readily' available whats to stop a member of the public getting one and using it on the neighbours cat?? The death that these animals suffer because of these traps must be horrendous, and for them to display these traps so prominently is just in my opinion in bad taste. I was told by Barry that i am welcome to take this matter further, hence this email. Please could we all stand together and let this store know that this is not acceptable. They cannot have these traps displayed in this manner. Please could everyone let this store know that this is not acceptable. -- Kind Regards, Denay Saunders Uitsig Animal Rescue Centre 076 224 2207 "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This e-mail is subject to the Telkom SA electronic communication legal notice, available at : http://www.telkom.co.za/TelkomEMailLegalNotice.PDF ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
