Two weeks ago, taps and pipes were also cut off
and stolen from 46 and 48 Oxford Rd. I was at work,
but neighbours told me about it (I live at 41 Oxford
Rd).
Earlier this year, my tap was cut and stolen,
recently my neighbour at 43 Oxford had hers taken
and there have been others taken from Oxford Rd.
Why are the people who buy these items not
stopped? If there was not a market for them, they
would not be stolen.
All these thefts are keeping the plumbers in
business!

Yesterday, Monday 20 August just before 12
midday, a brass tap was unscrewed from its
copper fitting and stolen from the front garden of
68 Scott Road. Although the tap was well hidden in a
bush the red polycop clearly lead the perp to tap.
Paddy in passing by, saw a black male jump over the
fence onto the pavement, the perp having been seen
him, ran down Scott Road in the usual 'getaway and
gone perp' move. Paddy phoned the home owner at his
work to inform him of the theft and running water. I
was soon contacted to assist in the shutting down of
the water and to assist the Char in having water
available again. I suspect that OPS and SAPS was not
alerted at that stage.
At approx 3 pm another theft of a tap
occurred from the front garden right next door at 66
Scott. This time the perp, unnoticed by anyone,
kindly first shut the stop cock, folded the red
polycop pipe over, and then broke off the tap
fitting and 'scadoodled off'. The owner, after
arrival and finding no water flow to the washing
machine, investigated the garden and and thus
noticed the theft and closure of the stopcock. I was
again contacted to assist, after which I contacted
Paddy to enquire the details of the perp he saw
earlier in the day, and then alerted the OPS and
SAPS to be on a sharp lookout for the smooth
thieving operator. The perp an African male with
a distinct black complexion, wore a khaki/brown
coloured trousers and a blueish grey round-neck
jersey.
A SAPS Investigator, Constable Pharo, came
around to me at approx 8 pm to enquire concerning
the two thefts of water taps, and informed me that
he was to proceed to another reported theft at 32
Arnold Street, as some water pipe or tap was
stolen earlier from there as well.
Kindly be on the alert at your home and
along your streets for any suspicious behaviour,
or anyone supposedly doing work in or around
your properties. I suspect he may very well be
wearing the same clothes, and if seen, urgently
to contact OPS at 021 4471066, and the SAPS
Reaction Vehicle at 082 302 5525, informing them
of his description, whereabouts, activity or
movements.
Kindly be vigilant at all times, looking out
from your home or business via doors or windows,
when going outside on your property or business,
or when walking or driving around in the suburb.
Together we can make the difference.
Take care
