Suspicious behaviour of African men at the Observatory Bookshop, situated at 76 Lower Main Road Observatory, has become a worrying factor. A message of it was radioed by an OPS foot patroller after which I contacted the co-owner/manager of the book store to enquire concerning the reported matter.
*1st Occurrence: Sunday 2 September 2012, late evening. * Apparently two African males and two African females entered his shop premises during a quiet period in the shop, and seemed more interested to where the cash till and office space was, other being occupied or interested in the books on display. · The two males seemed to be in their middle 20’s, thin and approx 6 ft tall, no description of the females were given. · The one male seemed to have noticeable burn marks on both his cheeks. · The other male wore a yellow & blue striped hooded jumper top. *2nd Occurrence: Sunday 9 September 2012, at around 7 pm. * Apparently the same two African males entered, but had two other African males with them. Again, their interest seemed not to be with the books, but a noticeable edginess of their presence In the shop was noticed. *3rd Occurrence: Wednesday 9 September 2012, at around 4.15 pm. * Apparently the same two African males again entered the shop premises, along with two African males, uncertain if they were the same two in accompaniment of the main two males. As their entrance into the bookshop seemed to be very sudden and directed towards his cash till, the Bookshop attendant stepped out of the shop and made a cunning call gesturing to nonexistent security, as a means of scaring the African male in their assumed stance of robbing the shop cash or possibly him. The African men immediately turned on kilter and left the shop in a hurry. It was reported that they apparently walked and turned the corner up into Trill Road. Your vigilance in noting any such suspicious behaviour and movements is important, your notification of dress and bearing to the OPS or the ONW is very important of piecing pieces of the Observatory crime puzzle together, hopefully to lead to pre-empting surveillance and arrests to be made. SAPS and OPS were notified accordingly.
