At around 02h30 this morning my partner and I were woken by screaming
and fighting in the street in Lower Main Road. A group of young men
and women who had just come from Gandalf's down the street (each word
could be heard in the house at the volume at which they were
screaming). They were involved in a loud fight as one of the young men
had apparently just thrown a bottle through someone's car window on
the way from Gandalf's and some of the party were highly upset about
it.

The noise continued to escalate as they were obviously heavily
intoxicated. At some point police van SW24 drove past, slowed down and
continued driving. One or two ADT vehicles also arrived and parked to
watch the scene.

Police van SW22 arrived and parked and the officer simply stood and
stared at this group shouting and screaming and threatening to injure
one another. We called obs security and were informed that Gandalfs
was closed and there was nothing to be done. When we addressed the
police officer to ask what he's going to do about this noise /
disturbance (he was obviously enjoying the scene and finding it quite
amusing) - this group didn't seem to pay any attention to our requests
to move along, he simply got in the van and drove off.

We're used to the usual Thursday night Gandalf's crowds stumbling
home / to other clubs down the road, making a bit of noise, but this
was going on from around 02h30 to 03h15.

One of the women in the group continually told the policeman that this
guy had damaged someone's car by throwing something through their
window and asking if there were any cyclopses / cctv cameras so he
could be arrested, at least one of them was bleeding, another was
allowed to drive off without so much as a breathaliser and the noise
was allowed to continue without any attempt by the police to stop
it.

How is it possible that the police can just allow this kind of
disturbing behaviour?
