On 2 Friday nights (2 and 3 weeks ago), I have also had to call OBSID because in Darien Lane between Lower Main and Oxford, there was such a drunken fight that I was woken up at 2am with the noise. A woman was screaming “alles is weg’, then I could hear a man hitting her and she was sobbing and wailing, very distressing and disturbing.

The dealers are usually on Lower Main Road, near the clubs. The problem is the no of dependent people who are starting to struggle a bit and cry in the road. In one instance last week, a woman in Trill Road sat in the street to cry. When a motorist slowed down to avoid colliding with her she hit his bonnet and shouted that he was bringing drugs into Observatory. He got out of his car and she screamed "Don't hit me! You're always hitting me!" The man was of course completely humiliated. The dealers have been working for quite some time. It's getting a bit much now! The dealers walk up and down Darien Lane, up and down Oxford Rd, up and down Bowden Rd talking on their cell phones, VERY smartly dressed, often with matching colours for shirts and shoes. These men are better dressed than any residents! They are all very confident too. It is very easy to see exactly who the dealers are. Every morning one can see different drain covers and water meters slightly open, later closed, then open again, as drugs are hidden and collected. The plants and gardens too, have the hiding places. The lavender bush across the road from my house has a round gap in it, where the hands go in and out. Threw away three that we found in our garden in Bowden opposite FAMSA today. Perhaps the security cam that they have installed outside the bar at the corner of main and bowden has picked something up, not usre who operates that. He also uses the water meter recesses and drains in Bowden Road to collect/drop off his stash, and can usually be spotted at some point during the day loitering and wandering up and down Bowden. I have phoned in a description a couple of times to the OBSCID, but to put this guy out of business, the police or OBSCID need to act decisively and swiftly, and reading about the growing drugs problem in Obs, there doesnt appear to be much appetite to do this. I do however object to leaving for work in the morning, and watching this character collecting his wares across the road. -- ________________________________ UNIVERSITY OF CAPE TOWN This e-mail is subject to the UCT ICT policies and e-mail disclaimer published on our website at http://www.uct.ac.za/about/policies/emaildisclaimer/ or obtainable from +27 21 650 9111.
