Hi Janet , presently there are two major operational projects happening in Obs with the focus on Lwr Main. The purpose is to address the drug issue in Obs. The Councillor and the Station Commissioner have been actively involved with these projects and arrests have been made in the past month. The crime challenges we have are being dealt with in a holistic way with all relevant role players actively involved. Because of the nature of the problems we are not going to publish the proposed action plan. We will be publishing the successes that was achieved because of the operations Sent from my BlackBerry®

I also read that article in the Cape Times. A true example of doublespeak in the style of Mr President! The Metro Police are based, headquartered and trained at the Community Centre in Observatory, (if I understand correctly). Not more than a few hundred metres (if that) away from one of Cape Town's hottest hot spots as far as drug dealing is concerned - Observatory Lower Main and the lanes that surround it. Surely, this should then be the 'cleanest' neighbourhood in Cape Town with trainee Metro Cops practicing their targeted patrols etc etc. Why is this not happening in Observatory? I imagine that Metro Police must drive around (I've never seen one of them walking!) with their eyes wide shut in order not to see the brazen criminality that we Observatory residents see all the time. Yes, let's invite Alderman Smith to Observatory to hear what he has to say. What about inviting the head of the Metro Police unit, the councillor for the area (Brett Heron?) as well and whoever else is involved and should be taking responsibility. I'm tired of not being able to enjoy my neighbourhood.
