Hello Natalie and Melanie, OBSID CEO, OBSID OPS staff I agree with all you said about the horsebox and the patrols. What good is the guy/s just sitting in the horsebox? (He doesn't even have 180 degree view down the street because he's sitting inside the box. Better he sat out on the pavement and could see both up and down lower Wrensch Road. While he's sitting in the box all he sees is in front of him, which is about a 30 degree view of the house opposite which he is parked.) (i think that this is a huge waste of a good resource.) What does the guy do while in the box? Is he given a task of counting people who pass...
I'd like to support the request for the security guard to do foot-patrols in the area where the horsebox is situated. In this day and age finding a solution to secure the horsebox can't be that difficult - come on OBSID, let's apply our collective wits here. micro-tag it, bolt it to the pavement, lock the wheels, remove the wheels, chain it to a street lamp pole....get a nice big chuck of concrete with a bolting option attached to it. attach the horsebox to this, put a motion detector alarm on it, so that when it is moved and the alarm set, it sets off the alarm.... I'd also like to support the call to bring back the foot-patrols (and /or bicycle patrols) and increase the training that the security patrollers get. I don't find them particularly friendly or interested in what they are doing. They need to get to know who lives in the area, be able to recognise faces, have a chat and hear what's happening in the area, this requires training and a particular set of skills. Yesterday, my domestic helper reported to me that as she was walked into through the Lower Wrensch subway, she was confronted with two people having sex in the subway, less than 50 m from the horsebox and the security guard. (this was at 1pm!) If the patrols were regular and obvious, people wouldn't engage in this kind of anti-social behaviour, so close to the horsebox. The lower Wrensch road subway is also quite tricky in that one cannot see if there is anyone in the subway, until you're in it. This is dangerous and the kind of place where we do need cameras or some kind of system that alerts one to the presence of people in the subway or in the "leg up" or "leg down" to the subway. Additionally, the Lower Wrensch subway smells really bad these days. Is it still being cleaned regularly, by the big truck with pressure hoses? I haven't seen the truck around for ages. On a positive note, I must commend the friendly young chap (on a bicycle) who was doing the rounds a few weeks ago, taking note of the state of the pavements in the lower OBS area. I see that some of the areas where pavements were in bad shape have now been fixed. We need more young OBSID chaps like this. I'm looking forward to hearing back from OBSID about our request for foot patrols and the other matters that I raised. Thanks Janet Cronje Strubens Road.
