HI Itumeleng (and everyone else)

As a neighborhood watch one of our aims is to try and build community and
networks by encouraging people to get to their know their neighbors. If
we recognised eachother in the streets then this kind of thing would not
happen. We would also all be in a better position to recognise people who
don't belong in our streets.

There are a few nexs steps I can recommend:

- Join your local street WhatsApp group. These groups are not just about
safety and security (although they have proven very successful) but also
about neighbors getting to know each other through being neighborly:
helping out with lost pets and rubbish bins, getting a jump start when your
battery is dead etc etc. You can contact Frank to put you in touch with the
appropriate group in your area

- Come along to one or two community meetings. I've already extended an
invitation to all to join us this coming Wednesday (27/07 at 6pm at the Obs
Community centre) to have a discussion around this issue. The Observatory
Civic Association also has a monthly meeting where they discuss much wider
issues than just safety and security in Obs. There is really an opportunity
for everyone to get involved in some way if they want to. And if you prefer
not to then its a good way just to find out whats going and to meet a few
people (or at least start to recognise and be recognised by a few people).

- Join us on a patrol. I find walking around the suburb for an hour in a
small group is a relaxed, fun way of getting to know your hood and
neighbors and get some fresh air and exercise at the same time. And is not
just for the macho okes - some of our most avid patrollers are women
(non-macho ones too). I can assist with anyone interested in finding out
more joining a patrol in their area.

Have a great weekend.
