OCRopus 0.4 has a lot of components, but not all of them are used as part of the new recognition pipeline right now.
We'll be adding hooks that let you add components to the recognition pipeline over the next few weeks. With that, you'll be able to insert (say) a couple of image cleanup components prior to page segmentation, if that's useful for the kind of documents you work with. And, of course, there will be a lot more documentation on what you can configure and how once that has settled.
