Older versions of Mercurial don't have support for nested repositories. You can just manually check out ocropy:
$ hg clone https://code.google.com/p/ocropus.ocropy ocropy However, OCRopus 0.6 uses lots of features in Python that aren't supported on Ubuntu 8.04.
