I guess that the problem is that I did not have the dev package for libpng installed, only the library itself. Maby it would be good to have a message saying "Could not find $LIBRARY, will not install function $FUNCTION" or something like that if the system is not finding the neccesery libraries and abandoning installing the function that the user is expecting from this package.
