Typically we expect that octave-forge functions don't have the same level of certainty in their performance as the Octave core functions, and so I'd suggest just getting the patch into octave-forge. Also as I don't expect the new functions effect the performance of any of the exiting functions you won't break any existing code.. Could you work this up as a patch today, as then it will be in the next octave-forge release that Soren is working on?
