Which version will you install?
A colleague runs successful octave 3.2.4 (mingw build) on windows 7 ultimate 
64 bit. I run myself for testing purposes the same version also in a windows 7 
64 bit ultimate (which is a  vmware virtual machine in my case).

No luck so far with version 3.4 (cygwin) in that environment, but this is more 
my personal or a cygwin problem (I simply broke it).
