Unfortunately this library requires JDK 8.
May we as well raise our dependency to JDK 8?
In general I would like to go up, but is it too problematic for Linux
contributions to update?
As a compromise we might do a release with the old Jena dependency and
update afterwards the SNAPSHOT version to be dependent to JDK 8.
Personally, I don't think a JDK 8 requirement would affect me. However...
Most other Apache Java projects I'm involved in tend to give their
userbase notice that a given release will be the last one on a given JDK
version, before the change.
So, if it's possible, I'd suggest we all work in the next few weeks to get
some more bugs fixed (in addition to all the good work Svante has been
doing!), do a final JDK 7 release, then bump to JDK 8 + new Jena. That
could even have another release soon after, as long as there's an
advantage to it. We probably do owe it to our users to give them notice +
one last "good" release before we upgrade though
