>From today, we are at least requiring JDK 7 as I have updated Jena to the latest 2.x version, which brings this requirement - automatic test failed due to this requirement and I have updated their test enviornment to JDK 7.
Remember that Oracle's JDK 7 is already EOL and without public updates since April 2015, see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/eol-135779.html I like the suggestions of Nick and Hendy, doing a release for JDK 7 now and continuing with JDK 8 afterwards with a harsh version bump.
