Hey Pals,
as Richard of o-hand.com will be too shy to mention it I'm hereby
claiming a cached run of BitBake only takes a couple of seconds while
still being able to reread changed BitBake files. This is an enormous
speed increase with almost no costs ATM.
Also a couple of other bugs have been fixed which result in a more
stable BitBake trunk. Now to the costs of this enormous speed increase:
-Moving variables (e.g. TIME, SRCDATE) do not work with the Cache
for a couple of things (mainly dependencies). We plan to fix that but
it is not too easy to do.
-For a bug workaround we currently do a copy of a variable which
slightly reduces performance again. We will fix that as well.
We would be glad if you could test this version of BitBake and report
failure or success to us. I would like to thank Richard for tackling
this task. And I hope we can release a faster and better tested
version of BitBake soon.
regards
holger
