It may just be me, but i think if your going to make a frontend
you might be better off to go all the way and simplify back.

Bitbake definatly could use a frontend but there are two basic 
types of users that i can see, SDK type users looking to build
thier gadget and DEVS who need/use far more than a cursory glance
at things.

Myself i have nothing against pygtk and have played with it myself,
but you may not want to reinvent the wheel and integrate the 
frontend into an existing project. Minimaly some type of editor and
a status window with generic templates to add/inject a package into
BitBake. 

Other projects you could possibly expand for use with OE/BitBake(a very quick
