I would like to create a bitbake front-end using pygtk.

Hi Diego,

awesome but use pyqt, it is way more portable and looks better on Win32 and OSX....

I think it could decrease the time that a beginner requires
in order to use bitbake.
Any suggestion about desired features, implementation details, desired user interface design, etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You could take a look at the old OE Commander to get an idea on what was present once. The primary goal should be to navigate, browse and search through the metadata.

One should be able:
        -to find possible providers
        -navigate through sections (base/net)
-search providers (by name, task, dependencies, packages it provides)
-browse through the data of a package (maybe even with xref)
        -find stuff by tags...

In the future:
-One should be able to write configurations (e.g. set PREFERRED_PROVIDERS, ASSUME_PROVIDED...)
-Create new BitBake files and graphically adding 'inherits'
        -Start Build, Rebuild, Fetch...

good luck
        h.
