Matt, you're right. We should even go further. Atm., we handheld/phone GUI
people are doing a lot of duplicated (or even more than twice) work with
handling all the device specifics.

I was thinking we should perhaps factor out all those specifics into a common
dbus-aware daemon (even those from Opie and E and whatever other GUI
environments may com). That way we could use dbus messages to trigger the
specifics and we wouldn't need to care for programming language preferences et.
al.

We would get things like backlight handling, LED handling, hinge and light
sensor handling, special buttons, device power management, peripheral
insertions etc. and mouch more working from all environments with code just in
one location. Even pure framebuffer apps would benefit. Should I make this a
proposal to gpe,opie,e etc. groups?
