I originally asked:

The project overview page discusses hosting Open Embedded under
Windows. [...] How far along is that effort?
and Cliff Brake replied:
I've never tried it, but it seems like a stretch to run OE on windows.
I would probably run some version of Linux on top of vmware-server on
your windows machine -- though, unless you have 512M - 1G of RAM, this
may not be practical. Doing a full OE build takes around 4 hours on a
fairly recent machine, so you may be looking at multi-day builds ...
Cool. My intent was to develop my own (small) applications so I wasn't that concerned with the build time. I'm thinking, now, that I should just dual-boot my Windows box. It's already got 512MB on it and it'll be happier with the Ubuntu installation (and I've got a spare TiVo disk that I can install in it for just such an occasion). Besides, it seems almost dirty to be doing Linux development on a Windows XP box.

Thanks for the info!
