Hi Aaron,
I tried hard not to, but found that I just *had* to reply (I have a thing
about words - currently reading "A Dictionary of Word Origins", which is a
*very* interesting book)
> the missing 'e' in chargeable was a typical americanism (a butchery of the
language that is)
Actually Americans include the 'e' too (according to my Merriam-Webster).
> and isn't 'pleb' a colloquialism...
Not at all. Just an abbreviation of plebian, that's been around since 1865
(again, according to my Merriam-Webster)
> he he
Words *are* fun, but I guess I've no right to ramble on in a Delphi list.
Sorry folks!
Cheers,
Kerry S
PS: Hot tip - You can get the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary *and*
Encyclopedia Brittanica 97 on CD-ROM at "The Warehouse" for $50. It's not
the pretty multi-media version, but the content is just fabulous!
