Any chance forwarding a letter on behalf of Borland NZ setting the record
straight. PC World is definately a Microsoft sympathising publication.

Ah! Nice little side-bar. Points:

"Heavy investment" was a lot of shares and a little cash of around $100
million total. We have over 350 million in cash in the bank. It was not a
"help out of the red" - we were never, AFAIK, "in the red", just not making
as much profit as we should have been. Borland has been in a very strong
position for a long time. I think I heard - not sure about this one - that
we can survive for about 3 quarters without selling a single SKU, and still
pay everyone. Nice.

Yes, we are trying to lure VB developers. Always have, always will.

Yes, we no longer refer to ourselves as Inprise, if we can help it. Locally,
we are having fun getting the borland.co.nz domain back and setup (yay! go
DOMAINZ!), but once it is..... New business cards on the way too - I just
hope they got a better designer than the last lot. :)

"imminent release" - yeah, if you consider 3 months "imminent" (ie 1
quarter) Qn always means _end_ of quarter n

MS poured 135 million into corel, and they are still going down the
tubes.... :) MS buys, on average, 2-3 companies per week - they have a few
billion to throw around, remember - even tho their share price has, I
beleive, fallen further than ours, %'age wise. :)

We have always supported what MS has done on windows (eg, COM) - I dont see
us changing from that - I'd expect COM+, ASP+, and .net support in Delphi 6
or 7 (maybe not the common runtime tho). Dunno about Kylix tho - v1.0 needs
to be out the door before any of these "extras" are added. Think v2.0

Anyone want me to tag on a forward looking statement? ie, all of the above
could be a load of crap, YMMV, etc. If its not announced on the web site,
then its mostly me guessing based on previous trends and some of what I've
heard (and can repeat) internally.

N
