You of course realise that on of the .NET Class libs will be a wrapper thru to the undlying OS API (ie win32) after all we wouldn't want to make .NET apps to portable would we
The speed issue isn't about the APIs, or the framework, but about the rate at which user code is executed. Even with a liberal helping of JIT, .NET code is not going to run as fast as equivalent native code any time soon... possibly never.
Ever wonder why the .NET license specifically forbids releasing benchmarks without authorization from Microsoft?
