For me it doesn't cut the mustard these days. For example, consider the scenario where I'm backing up 250MB of stuff from my personal website. I literally log on with SmartFTP, drag and drop the root folder of my website to a folder on my PC, and it starts 20 downloading threads simultaneously, and then shuts down my PC when the transfer queue is empty.
Can't do that with command line FTP. ;-) And it's free for that sort of personal use.
