I am looking to upgrade my PC as it does not have enough horsepower to run a
MS Virtual PC with XP/ Delphi 7 development environment/MS SQL Server in it.
Current PC is 1GB RAM (Maxed out already), and around a 2.2Ghz AMD Pentium
processor.
Does anyone have opinions on the best options:
1 - Is VMWare player likely to give better performance?
2 - Is MS Virtual PC 2007 more affected by RAM allocated or pure CPU
horsepower?
3 - I am looking at some flavour of Vista - Home premium/business/ultimate -
I have worked on a Vista desktop PC which runs this virtual PC easily.
Best looking options so far are either:
a) AMD 64bit Athlon Phenom/Athlon desktop - able to take up to 8GB RAM
b)Grunty-ish laptop Intel 2.2Ghz Intel Core Duo (Centrino 2)
Any comments or other recommendations. I am interested in most bang for
the fewest bucks and portable-ish as well.
4 - I would also be running D2007 native (ie not in a virtual PC) - any
issues for D2007 with any of the above PC's on any versions of Vista or the
AMD 64bit chips?
Any limitations of Vista Home Premium when connected to work networks?
