Vista sucks in general.
There are many, many things which are slower or harder to do in Vista than they are in XP. Networking is a classic one... try to get to Control Panel -> Network Connections so you can change your connection properties without going through two intermediate popup windows first. And then there are the things which straight out don't work, like searching your files. Oh sure, if you stick with file extensions that Microsoft like AND you are lucky enough that your indexing database doesn't get corrupted then maybe you will be one of the fortunate and it will work, but I gave up and installed BareGrep after multiple horrific failures to find files using the Vista search. Or how about connecting to a VPN? Quite common for it to refuse to let you from the Connect to a network screen because you don't have an internet connection when you do... however if you go to the cleverly hidden Network Connections screen (via multiple steps as mentioned above) then the VPN will connect just fine. I could go on but I think you get the idea. Vista is fine in theory and may in fact be fantastic for new users of Windows (are there any of them?) but it sucks for experienced users. David. I don't tend to ever put more than 712-1gb ram in a guest as its not needed and slows down the suspend operations a lot. My virtual machine for development is configured to 1gb ram, and 16gb HDD. this contains MS SQL desktop edition, and D2007 plus a raft of other stuff like photoshop etc that i use.. works great. I don't do any development outside of a VirtualMachine.. haven't done so for years.. The only downside is development of Graphics heavy (games etc) type stuff where the virtual graphics environment is not quite there yet. Paralells for apple is also a good product, but paralells for windows not so great last I used it.
