Subject: [DUG-Offtopic] Transferring Data with integrity check

I have a data file I want to be able to transfer regularly, probably as an
email attachment. It will be just ascii text, and the main requirement is I
want to be able to mark it someway so that it cannot be altered, or any
alteration can be detected. (The program at the receiving end will do the
checking of the data)

There are many ways to do this integrity checking, I am imagining some sort
of checksum (either standard or my own), or maybe some kind of PGP
signature..or I could encrypt it. .I am wondering what others recommend as
best candidate tools to use.

Any web sites or references to investigate further?

John
