When distributors (including myself at that time) asked this question
on trademark-discuss in 2007, we were not even allowed to call our
(Sun-friendly / non__brach-off) ^^distros foo-distro OpenSolaris^^ .

Later this marginally changed with Indiana, and there were strict
guidelined for compatibility and similarity with the Sun-dictated so
called reference distro Indiana. Then one would be allowed to use it,
under strict regulations.

I am not a lawyer, but I guess it is legally not enforcable for
anybody except the trademark-owner, to use this string (or substring)
anywhere in the name. Unless - of course - the trademark owner
mutually permits this.
